A perfect Sydney summer evening in the magnificent gardens of Government House was the setting for the 2018 Cocktail Party.
Upon entering Government House, guests were greeted with a spectacular Christmas Tree in the drawing room - standing over four metres tall and decorated to perfection.
Hosted by The Patron of the Australia Day Council of NSW, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd), Governor of NSW and Mrs Linda Hurley, network members and guests were treated to a delightful evening of live music, bubbles, canapes and good, easy conversation.
John Foreman, Creative Director of Australia Day in Sydney welcomed guests and gave an insight into the importance of building meaning into our national day of celebration and how the Australia Day in Sydney program is developed on this basis.
The Governor also spoke on the importance of Australia Day and took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank Angelos Frangopoulos, Chairman of the Australia Day Council of NSW for his leadership of the Australia Day board, program and team over the past 8 years. Angelos will be stepping down as Chairman following Australia Day 2019 to undertake a senior international posting.
The Governor extended an invitation to guests to explore Government House and discover its history and grandeur with one of the House guides.
The energy and esteem exuded by the historical location created a magical atmosphere where introductions were made, networks expanded, tours taken and a lot of fun was had.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable evening for everyone involved.
